(a recent prayer letter received from Dan & Vicki Weaver, Belize)
Greetings from the Valley of Peace. Well, the rainy season has definitely come, actually I should call it the flood season. We have been hit by several tropical storms over the past few weeks, and the rainfall has been horrific. The river is up about 40-50 feet above normal. Roads are covered and many bridges are out, making travel difficult. In some areas in northern Belize, children are being taken to school in canoes and rafts. Thank the Lord that our church compound here in the Valley is on higher ground so we have not suffered any structural damage.
As many of you know, it tends to get ridiculously hot and humid here. We hold services at night to beat the heat a little, but it can still be extremely uncomfortable during the service. Two years ago, we had a visitor from the states attend our evening service and afterward he commented on how hot it was during the service. I told him that I have often thought of putting in air conditioning, but we just could not afford it. He told me that he owns an A/C business in the states and offered to provide the installation of the A/C in our auditorium if we purchase the units. I told him I would pray about it and the next time he is in Belize we can talk. He showed up the other day and asked if we were ready for A/C. I said thanks, but we just cannot afford it at this time. He said that I must have misunderstood. He was offering to provide both the installation and the A/C units as well. It will not cost us anything. Valley Baptist Church has air-conditioning now! What a blessing. Ms. Vicki is afraid that we are getting soft, but I said that twenty-four years of sweating is enough, and besides, if the Lord wants to give our church air conditioning, I am sure not going to say no. I am just going to say, “Thank You Lord!”
Ministry is going well as the Lord continues to bless. Souls are begin saved, new converts are getting baptized and some are going through our Biblical Discipleship. The other night I received a call from a man who had been attending services lately. He apologized for calling so late but said that he really needed to talk with me. Ten minutes later he was at my gate, and I invited him in. He said that he was having trouble sleeping lately. I asked why and he said, “Pastor Dan, I know I’m not saved, and if I should die, I am going to hell.” We talked for about an hour, I shared the Gospel with him, and he trusted Christ as his Savior. As he was leaving, he turned and said, “Pastor Dan, I know I am going to sleep better tonight.”
Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support of our ministry. We could never do what God has called us to do … without you.
