Many of you will be receiving, or have received, a letter from Universal RX (URX) with information about your current prescriptions and alternatives to what you are taking.

Some have expressed concern that URX is forcing them to change their medications.

URX is not (and cannot) tell you to change your prescriptions. Nor are they questioning why you are using a specific type of medication.

The intent of the letter is to make you aware that less expensive alternatives may be available to you.

Here is one example: last year URX identified a missionary who was using a Tier 3 medication with a co-pay of 25% + $20. This missionary was paying close to $200 out-of-pocket each month for  refills. URX identified a Tier 1 generic with a $5.00 co-pay–a $195 a month savings.

The increasing cost of prescriptions has heavily factored into the rate increases for the BBFI Medical Plan over the last few years. When opportunities like the one noted above are taken advantage of, it benefits both the missionary and Medical Plan.
