Having spent a considerable part of their developmental years outside the culture of their parents, Missionary Kids (aka Third Culture Kids or TCKs) find their perspectives, values, worldview and behavior are met with a unique mix of benefits and challenges. While the benefits can produce a positive impact in a TCK’s life, too often they suffer in silence, and the challenges they face are ignored or dismissed. “Research has demonstrated that the TCK is often key in making or breaking the ability of the parent(s) to be effective and efficient.” (David C. Pollock)
In order to support and strengthen the well-being of the missionary family as a whole, and foster their success in ministry, the Mission Office MK Team actively works to:
As teens begin to look toward transitioning to the United States, we are providing educational materials that address college selection and preparation, managing finances, finding employment, choosing a church, establishing residency, and understanding US culture. This year we have been able to offer assistance to incoming college freshmen by providing them with a workbook and mentorship to aid in processing their unique identity, gift cards to help with various expenses, and we continue to connect with them on multiple college campuses through personal visits and social media.
An adult TCK has a great deal to offer mission efforts, faith organizations, international businesses, government, diplomacy, and education. We encourage you to financially partner with us to assist them in successfully navigating their many transitions and reach their full potential. While statistics may show that many MKs never reach the final stage of living and thriving anywhere, our Vision Statement imagines a better future for them: “MKs involved in our ministry will receive training, nurturing, and care that will aid them in living a godly life.”
