When you commit to hiring a teacher in Juba, South Sudan, you can do it by monthly or annual gifts. For a full time teacher we need $240 per teacher per month. For a part-time, course specific, teacher we need $110 per teacher per month. You can “hire” your teacher by sending your support to us, marked School Teacher in Juba. Of course you can give any amount on a one time or monthly basis, and every gift marked “School Teachers in Juba” will go towards supporting our teachers. Every penny!
We want to be God-honoring, and life changing in what we are doing here. By “hiring” a teacher in Juba, YOU can impact the lives of EACH of the students! Most teachers in S. Sudan are under paid, or often NOT paid. By assuring our teachers will be paid a fair salary and their transport, housing and emergency medical costs will be addressed, and by assuring them that their wages will be regular, you will make our school unique and effective.
In an effort to get enough school fees to pay teachers and also make a profit, schools often pack 60-80 students into a classroom designed and intended to accommodate 40 students. Added to that, again, trying to increase profit, two sessions of classes are often held, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. As you can imagine, the quality of education suffers, and the teachers are tired and discouraged, and still not making enough money to support their families. Because of this, teachers are always looking for a better job and there are constant interruptions to the education of the students.
Bible Baptist Secondary School will be entirely NOT FOR PROFIT and if there are any extra funds, they will be set aside to be used for books, labs, computers and other extras for enhancing the learning process. There will be full accountability on a monthly basis.
The students will be required to pay tuition fees equivalent to about $25 per term or about $6 per month. Although these fees are very low, they will still be difficult for every family because of the economy here. These fees are not enough to support Teachers, but they will be used for office costs, learning materials, and to subsidize the medical and emergency fund for the teachers and the school.
Please let us know of your intention to support a teacher for at least a year as soon as possible, so we can have confidence going forward that we will be able to pay our teachers. As we hire teachers, we will send you teacher’s profiles, and photos, so you can better pray for them and their families.
We would like to see our teachers subsidized in this way for the first 2-4 years, maybe on a decreasing scale if the economy in South Sudan stabilizes and the school can become self-supporting. We will begin this year with only the first year class. Our goal will be to add a class every year. As our student body increases, student funding will increase, allowing us to gain the ability to eventually become self-supporting. This is our goal.
So, this is it!! This is your RADICAL opportunity, to make a lasting impact on the lives of all the students, by doing something radical…by “hiring” a teacher in South Sudan! Please pray with us that God will provide, and that we will be ready to start classes in February 2019! Will you be a part of this God honoring, life changing, radical opportunity? |
