Hi I’m Abigail Waters, MK in Zambia, Africa. I have lived on the missions field since I was eighteen months old, and now I’m eighteen. Growing up on the mission field has brought me blessings and experiences that I will never forget. Several of these experiences have taught me the power of praying and asking God for help. There were even prayers of mine He answered in ways I didn’t expect.
Last year during midterms I prayed for God to give me the strength to get up at 6:30 every day that week. You know how tired you get when you have to stay up late studying then get up early the next day and do school work. Anyway, God answered my prayer in a way I didn’t expect. See I thought He would like give me a energy boost or something in the morning, boy was I wrong, He sent a bird. Around 6:25 the next day, this little yellow bird started pecking on my window. At first I scared it away, but it kept coming back till I got out of bed. This continued throughout the week. Every day the little yellow bird would come peck at my window till I got up. When midterms were over the bird stopped coming and pecking at my window. However a few months later, during finals, I asked God to help me get up in the morning again, and the bird came back. After finals I never saw the little yellow bird again.
God has answered many of my prayers – even ones I might think are silly requests. I know He doesn’t answer every prayer the way we want Him to, or expect Him to. Nor does He answer every prayer request we ask of Him. That’s just the way things are. He knows what’s going to happen so all we can do is trust in what He allows to happen. He does answer prayers though, sometimes in an unexpected way. So for those who are struggling I pray that you turn to the Lord in prayer, for if He sees it fit to answer, He will.
Psalms 17:6: “I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.”
