One of the things most MKs can relate to the most is hearing the same sermon week, after week while visiting churches on furlough. Some MKs can even quote their father’s sermons because of how many times they have heard it. Although some people might consider this to be extremely boring, it is actually a great reminder that, no matter how many times we have heard a chapter, verse, book, or story from the Bible preached, we can always learn something new from it.
Hebrews 4:12 tells us the Word of God is living and active. I saw this clearly as I learned new things from my dad’s sermon every Sunday as he preached it. Every time he would read the verses I would notice something I had not noticed before. It didn’t matter that I had heard the same sermon every week for the past few months every time he preached it I would learn something new.
It’s easy to think we know everything about a certain story or chapter of the Bible, but if we keep our mind and heart open we will learn new things and notice things we never have before. We should never think that we know everything there is to know about the Bible. Even great scholars who have studied the Bible for most of their lives will tell you that you can always learn something new from God’s Word. That is just how alive and active the Bible truly is. Even though God’s Word will never change, it can always change you if you let it.
