Joyce’s big smile, fun-loving and caring spirit are just a few of the things that make her special around the Mission Office. As we feature her in this edition of ‘Staff Spotlight’, we wanted you to get to know her better including a big change that has occurred in her life as of late. So in our traditional interview style, here is more about Joyce!
Tell how and when you came to the Mission Office and what your role is.
A friend of mine that worked at the Mission Office asked me if I was happy with my job. I was currently praying about looking for a job because of bad conditions in my workplace. I was hired about a week later to work my “fantasy dream job” in July 2003. I am Steve Bender’s secretary which includes Missionary Care and Chaplains. Additionally, I train, assist, review, and file missionary quarterly financial reports.
Tell us about your family and your connection to missions.
I was raised in a church that supported missionaries and have always enjoyed their testimonies when they would come to our church. When I lived in Guam, I enjoyed teaching children’s church When I went on a Mexico Mission Trip, I passed out supplies and Bibles. These are some of the experiences that influenced my life toward my Christian testimony and my burden for missions.
What is one thing that few people know about you?
I got engaged to Chet Pearman on Christmas Day 2021 and was married on February 11, 2022.
What indoor/outdoor activities bring you the most enjoyment?
I enjoy crafting with my sister and working outside in the yard.
Where do you enjoy going on vacation and why?
Right now, I enjoy going to North Carolina because that is where my daughter and her family live (including my three grandchildren). After that, probably Branson or in the mountains would be my favorite vacation spot.
What do you like most about working in the Mission Office?
I appreciate working with Bro. Bender and I admire his leadership. I truly enjoy helping the newly approved missionaries to learn the reporting process. I train and assist them with their quarterly finance report. I also love that we have prayer time each morning for our missionaries regarding their current needs and seeing those prayers answered.
