-a recent prayer letter from Steve and Kelli Mowery serving in Spain
We are WELL. First of all, we are enjoying good health. The church is doing WELL. We had a married couple that was exposed to the virus but have since recovered and are doing WELL. They are the architects for the new building and are back to work, busy getting things finished in the building. Everything has been on hold for the last 6-7 weeks. Our plan is to begin having services May 17 as the government begins to loosen the restrictions. We will be allowed 33% capacity for two weeks and then 50% in our new auditorium.
WELL….this is not what we expected or planned. This was not how we expected to spend Spring 2020. Never in my life would I have believed it. I’m sure you are thinking the same thing. Spain shut down in mid-March with one of the worst cases of the virus in the world. But thankfully our region of Murcia was one of the least affected in the whole country.
In our last letter we announced the inauguration of our new building for April 5 but God had other plans. This four year process has taught us many things, mostly patience.
We like everyone else, resorted to services online. We did the morning and evening services through Facebook and our weekday meetings on Zoom. It’s not the same. We had our seminary class through Zoom, men’s prayer meeting through Zoom, ladies meeting and teens and marrieds meeting through Zoom. It was better than nothing but the church is the church when it is meeting together physically. It has given us a greater appreciation for the things we took for granted. It has been a lesson WELL learned.
WELL the Lord has surprised us in the middle of all of this. We have been witnessing to the nephew of the previous owner of our new building for the last four years. The Lord has opened his eyes to the lies of Catholicism and now he realizes that he needs to replace it with the truth. Fernando has read through Genesis and now is in Matthew. He has been “attending” our services online and yesterday he told me he wants to know how to follow the Lord. Pray that the Lord will save Fernando. He is from Murcia, a native and his heart is open to the truth like Lydia. Thank you for praying for him as you have for many others.
It’s been 31 years of serving the Lord here in Spain. We arrived April 22, 1989. Many of you have been with us each step of the way from the beginning. WELL done! Thank you for that. The Sunday before the quarantine we had our yearly Mission Conference and voted to begin supporting the ministry of a young couple in Venezuela. The work continues and it is a privilege to serve the Lord together with you! All is WELL!
