(a recent prayer letter received from Mike Ivey, Korea)
Nations Baptist Church spent its first six months meeting in a borrowed facility that cost $25 per Sunday until we were told that we had less than a week to find something else. The next five days were a great test of our faith and our resolve to see the Lord do a great work on Jeju. By the end of the week, the Lord had miraculously provided a space on the first floor of a commercial building at half the market lease price. That space has been our home for the past 3.5 years, allowing the congregation to reach into the neighborhood and make a broader impact on the international community of Jeju Island.
The first time I walked into the building, it only had a few commercial tenants, but it drew in my heart. The building was new, it was clean, and there was free and plentiful parking, but more than that…I took the elevators to the third floor which was unfinished concrete, without lighting or electricity, but the space had vaulted ceilings and just “felt” like the right space for a church. Knowing that we could not afford the space, nor could we pay to finish it out, I asked the Lord if He would see fit to let us have a space like that….someday!
Well, “SOMEDAY” has come! The building manager approached the church in early May and asked if we were interested in moving from the first to the third floor (still at half the market price). The new space more than doubles our floorspace, gives us an enormous outdoor patio looking over an orange grove (think baptisms and fellowships), and is finished with beautiful flooring, lighting, and walls. The very space that I asked God for 3.5 years ago was finished out as corporate offices and still feels just like a church! Thank you for your concern for this work and ministry, we deeply appreciate you!
