(a recent prayer letter received from a CAN missionary serving in a Himalayan country)
We have been contacted several times in the past week about the situation in “our country”. I would like to give a brief update on the unrest in “the city we serve” and the ramifications for our churches and believers.
On September 8, protests against the government and corruption within the government started in “our city”. Those protesting were young people in their teens, twenties, and thirties. On September 9, the crowds grew to over 100,000 in the streets of the city and the police could no longer control the situation. The police killed 22 young people that day. That opened the door to anarchy and the mob went through the city looting and burning almost all government buildings and the homes of government officials. Finally, on September 10, the military took charge and stopped the rioting. Curfews remained in effect in “our city” for over a week. Things are just now returning to normal.
We praise the Lord that not one believer in any of our churches nationwide was harmed or injured in any way. Also, not one of the church buildings was targeted. Everyone is safe and doing as well as they can at this time. Because of the curfews imposed by the military we were not able to have services for two weekends. However, we are now meeting as usual. Words cannot express how much we appreciate your prayers at this trying time for our churches.
This summer one of our churches held two special meetings. One was a three day youth meeting. The second meeting was a two day meeting for the ladies of the church. Both meetings dealt with being a Christian, as a young person or wife and mother, among unbelieving family and friends.
July and August are busy months for us as a family with birthdays and anniversaries. We want to thank all of those that send cards or contacted us on our special days. It was a blessing to hear from you.
It seems the world is changing so rapidly that things rarely remain the same for more than a few weeks. Please continue to pray for the work and ministry in “our country”. Your prayer and support are being used by the Lord to spread the gospel in this nation.
