(a recent prayer letter received from Blake and Megan Hunter, South Africa)
We want to thank each of you for your continued prayer and support for our ministry! It is such a blessing to have so many around the world praying for us here in Cape Town.
The last few months have been filled with consistency in our church plant. Several of the new families and individuals who began attending last year have continued their faithfulness and are growing in the Lord. It has been great to see the spiritual growth in many areas. Cape Town has had several large events on Sundays during this season, and we typically expect a big drop in attendance, but on a number of those weekends, we had great attendance and even had a few visitors! One of the blessings of being in a touristy area is that we frequently get visitors who are on vacation. We know we don’t have them long, but we pray that they leave encouraged and built up in the Word. Whether we have people for one week or many years, it is important that we consistently proclaim the Gospel with every opportunity.
At the end of February, one of our supporting churches in North Carolina flew Blake in for the weekend to be part of their missions focus services. It was a very quick trip just for the weekend, but it was such a blessing to meet so many people at the church and really be able to connect better. On that Saturday, he had a display table showcasing South Africa at an event with several hundred people, and then on Sunday, he spoke in two different adult classes as well as the main evening service. Blake’s dad was even able to come down from Virginia to spend the weekend with him which was a special blessing. Blake came home encouraged by the church and blessed to meet so many people including several other missionary families. We are so thankful for Shepherd’s Church and their investment in us!
In March, we started a new men’s Bible study group on Monday nights. We have several men in the church who were very interested in deeper Bible study, and we are very excited about the opportunity to meet weekly in that regard. We are meeting in a coffee shop, and on the first night of the study, one of the baristas asked if he could join us. He shared that he has been going through a very difficult time recently and had many questions about God. Please pray for Khanyiso! God is working in his heart, and we hope and pray that he will come to salvation soon.
Thank you for your faithfulness! None of this would be possible without these partnerships.
We are still praying for Megan’s visa correction to come back. They said it could take up to six months, and we are almost right at that timeframe. We are praying that we will receive positive news soon.
Kynlee and Desmond started a new school year in January. Kyn is in 3rd grade, and Desi is in 1st. They both are really doing well with the bigger responsibilities in their respective grades. Both of them have a more difficult schedule than last year with extra homework as well, but now that we are a couple of months in, we are in a good rhythm. They are even beginning to learn two additional languages (Afrikaans and Xhosa). It’s so fun to hear them practicing new words when they come home. Pretty soon, they’ll be teaching us!
