On September 25, you were emailed a copy of the Medicare Creditable Coverage Notice. Enclosed is a hard copy for your records.
Active missionaries: Our medical plan requires all active missionaries to enroll in Medicare Part A and B when they turn 65. Once you provide confirmation of your enrollment, you are moved to our IMG Medicare Plan. At that time Medicare becomes Primary and IMG becomes your Secondary insurance when you are stateside. This notice is to confirm your current drug coverage with IMG is creditable. All active missionaries must remain on our plan and should NOT enroll in a Medicare Supplement, Advantage Plan (also known as Part C) or a Part D (prescription drug plan.)
Retired missionaries: When first retiring stateside and then every year during Medicare Open Enrollment, you will be given the option to come off our IMG plan and enroll in a Medicare Supplement or Advantage Plan (also known as Part C) and a Part D (prescription drug plan.) At that time, you will be asked if you have had “creditable drug coverage.” If not, you could face a penalty. Because of the potential penalty that some might face, employers must let their insureds know if their drug plan is or is not creditable each year.
Medicare open enrollment is October 15th through December 7th each year. During that time, our retired missionaries (living stateside) may choose to come off our medical plan or come back on. The effective date will be the following January. It is important to maintain creditable drug coverage at all times to avoid facing penalties. You also need to notify the Mission Office of your decision to go off or come back on our medical plan. There is an Opt-Out form that needs to be completed, and we will need a copy of your new insurance card each year from your Supplement or Advantage plan. Those remaining on our IMG Medicare plan do not need to do anything.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Blessings,
Nancy
