July brings us Advanced Mission Training week at the Mission Office. Our goal is to help prepare new missionaries and their families for life on the field. One way we do this is by sharing resources. With this blog I’d like to share some recent resources. Below, you will find some helpful links to general homeschooling information, homeschool support and online school options, online testing options, and resources for special needs. These resources come from Terri Harmon and the TCK consultant website. We live in a world flush with information. It can often feel overwhelming trying to keep up with all that is available. Perhaps some of these highlighted resources might be a help to you.
A new book: Nourished (Third Culture Kids and the Village They Need) by Anna Danforth
One of the main insights is that children need specific support structures to build resilience and, for globally mobile families, those structures get disrupted over and over again. Follow the link www.Jasonweimer.com/nourished for an interactive tool to evaluate how your kids are doing, and what you can do to help them in their cross-cultural journey.
From the TCK Training.com: Weekly Check-In by Christy Carmean
Many parts of transition that are difficult to prepare your child for are the invisible parts.
Three things to keep in mind as your students graduate and launch into the next phase of life.
The TCK Training Workshop Site offers webinars that can be viewed such as Transitioning Out of University and Tips for TCKs Entering an American University. There is a fee for watching these workshops.
An additional resource is the book The Global Nomad’s Guide to University Transition by Tina L. Quick.
