(a recent prayer letter received from Levi and Chelsea Wilson, South Sudan)
Wow! We have finally arrived, and the Lord has done so much in a short amount of time. We flew into South Sudan on Friday, June 10th. Jim Eberhard (Kenya) was able to accompany us as we settled in. During visitation the next day we saw two men come to know Jesus. During church service we saw two men pray to receive Christ. The following week on Tuesday a man named Yy accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. Then during chapel for our high school, we had twenty-nine students and two teachers stand up during the invitation. As we talked with them, sixteen of the students and one of the teachers prayed to receive Christ. Now, we are doing discipleship with twenty-one students, one teacher, and the two men who were saved our first Sunday here! God is so good!!! We have seen two more saved this past week and we are expecting many more!
While Jim was here, there was a young girl at our school named Mercy who fell over in the morning before classes and was shaking. He wasn’t sure what happened to her but prayed with her in the moment. The next week at chapel Mercy fell over while we were singing, she was shaking uncontrollably and all Peter could do was hold her arm so she didn’t hurt herself on the floor. After chapel we asked if she could stay behind so we could share the gospel with her. She agreed and praise the Lord she got saved! The next day she came to discipleship, and she even joined us for church on Sunday. It is evident that her life is changed. She now walks around with a smile on her face, and she is filled with Joy. Only God could bring this girl from the spiritual darkness she was in and into His glorious light.
Before we came to South Sudan, we knew there were many Catholics, Presbyterians, and tribal religions. One thing we didn’t realize was the growing Muslim population. When we travel in the city many of the men we have talked to have been Muslim. One man, Mohammed was very willing to talk with Chelsea and Mori about Jesus. We discussed that Jesus is the only way, and He died on the cross for our sins. He said he agreed with us, he accepted a gospel tract from us, and said he might come join us for church on Sunday. While he has not come yet, we are praying that He might come this week. We have a neighbor across the street named Hassan who is Muslim as well, and we are praying he will join us for church too. Lastly, Peter was in town the other day and a young Muslim man, Musa, asked for Peter to pray for him. Peter game him a gospel tract, he asked the man to read it, and they would discuss it the next time Peter came to their shop. Please pray for these men. They are open to communication, but we want to see them accept the gospel!
In our short amount of time here we have seen the heavy burdens our friends in the ministry carry for their families. Many have died, many are sick, and many are struggling financially. We ask for you to pray for these families. With the great need it’s easy to spread yourself too thin and be weighed down by the heavy load. Pray that they will cast their cares on the Lord, that they would point their family members to Christ, and that they would remember that their responsibility is to serve Christ and not man.
