I would like to share with you an exciting announcement concerning the BBFI Mission Office. God has blessed our finances through the years under the leadership of Dr. Boonstra, Dr. Baird and our current team. Because of this we are going to be able to build a new Mission Office building as well as housing for our retired missionaries. We have 30 acres on which to do this in the southwest part of Springfield, MO.
Please watch the presentation about how this came to fruition and how it will be financed by clicking here à New Building Initiative.
There will be a follow-up Zoom call on March 31, 2022, at 10:00 am CST to answer any questions any pastors or missionaries might have. If you are interested in joining this Zoom call please register by clicking on the following link, Zoom Registration Link.
Why are we doing this?
- Aging missionary force
- Many have reached retirement age and others will soon.
- Currently we have 36 couples and 38 singles who are retired.
- Some are living in retirement centers managed by other organizations.
- We will build 10 to 12 units and then expand as funds are raised. This will not be enough for all retired missionaries, but it is a good start.
- This project is an important recruiting tool.
- Candidates sometimes ask about what life looks like after retirement in the BBFI.
- We are often asked if there is anything for those who retire.
- This could also be a big help with missionary retention.
- If these homes are a possibility, some may stay on the field until retirement age knowing something will be available instead of resigning to find a way to retire.
- This project does something meaningful for our retired missionaries.
- New Mission Office building.
- Don’t need such a large building – our current building space is not fully utilized.
- The new building would generate excitement.
- New modern-looking building would correspond with our new media and website presence.
- Functionality of the building.
- More practical for our staff.
- More efficient use of space.
- Reduced utility costs in comparison to the current large building.
- Benefits of close proximity to new missionary housing.
- Assist with occupancy decisions.
- Assist missionaries when needed.
- Still near BBC by staying in Springfield.
- The Mission Office would continue to be very active with BBC.
- We will continue the World Mission Forum, chapels and teaching in mission classes.
- Brian Garrison began teaching a class on missions this semester and plans to continue.
How are we doing this?
- Not touching missionary funds in any way.
- God has blessed investments.
- Sale of foreign homes through the years has generated income.
- Executive Committee approved moving $5.5 million from investments to a cash account.
- Met with state leaders twice in Springfield and Texas. All are in favor of this project.
We praise God for His provision as we navigate through these interesting times and work to assist churches with the Great Commission and provide the housing for retired missionaries. At the same time, we are doing all we can to recruit and assist new missionaries who surrender to go. By the way, you are the best recruiters we have. Also, don’t forget to pray to the Lord of the Harvest for more laborers!
Have a great month!
Your friend,
Jon
