Can you believe it’s almost Christmas time? After a year like 2020, many have already put up their trees and lights trying to bring something positive into these discouraging days in which we live. As we celebrate this season, the most important thing is that people hear about and trust in the profound and unchanging love of Jesus Christ. And we get to be the ones who share that Good News!
I have a long list of tough experiences that many have gone through this year. I will not list all of them at this time, but there are many. Yes, we have seen more missionaries and Mission Office personnel dealing with COVID-19 lately. Many have recovered already as others are still recovering. Thank the Lord! Some remain stuck in the US and can’t get back to their countries of service. Others can’t get out of their countries to get home. These situations, along with the various lockdowns and mandates, can cause many to feel like exiles. I have had to quarantine at least three times so far.
Despite all this, I am praying for new doors of opportunity wherever we find ourselves as we enter this season of celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Savior of the world. Most people are still living in a sincere fear of death and we know Jesus is the Answer! God has positioned each of us to influence those around us with the lifesaving and lifegiving truth of the Gospel.
Remember, our world may seem like it is falling apart but actually, everything in our world is falling into place – according to God’s plan!
Warren Wiersbe has a beautiful arrangement of the prophecy concerning the name of Christ found in Isaiah 9:6.
His name is Wonderful: this takes care of the DULLNESS of life; Counselor: this takes care of the DECISIONS of life; The Mighty God: this takes care of the DEMANDS of life; The Everlasting Father: this takes care of the DIMENSIONS of life; The Prince of Peace: this takes care of the DISTURBANCES of life.
Now, that will preach! These names of Jesus can be encouraging, especially during these difficult times that we find ourselves in and with Christmas just around the corner.
All of us at the Mission Office are thinking of you this season and wishing you a joyful Christmas.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
