Greetings from Springfield, MO. I hope this finds you doing well. With the new year well under way, I am sure you are staying quite busy. We pray for you often here in the Mission Office.
The Fellowship Meeting is already here. This year it started on Monday, April 29. Committee meetings start on Monday with approval committees meeting on Tuesday afternoon to interview five couples being approved as career missionaries. Wednesday morning, starting at 10:00 AM is the missions service which should be a blessing to those who attend.
There are a couple of things I would like to remind you of:
Hebrews 1:3 is a verse that I always like to remember and go to when facing trials and difficulties. I especially like the part that says “…and upholding all things by the word of his power…” I know we all face trials, attacks and obstacles– many times on a daily basis. When we do, it is good to remember that Christ, by His almighty power, holds together all creation.
Can you imagine what would happen if Jesus relinquished His sustaining power over the laws of the universe? We would cease to exist — our atoms scattering throughout the galaxy.
What if He suspended the laws of gravity only for a brief moment? If any of the physical laws changed just a little, we could not exist. Our food could turn to poison; we would drift out into space or get flooded by the oceans. However, the universe remains in balance because Jesus Christ sustains and monitors all its movements by His power.
Therefore, when I think about Christ’s power to uphold the universe, I am reminded of the wonderful promise found in Philippians 1:6 where it says, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”
When Christ begins a work in my heart, He doesn’t end there. He continually sustains it until the day He will take me into God’s very presence. Our lives, just like the universe, would be utter chaos were they not sustained by Christ. So, when I face the difficulties that come my way, I ask God to remind me of Christ’s sustaining power. That always lifts me up and helps me endure and overcome!
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might no matter what comes your way.
Your friend,
Jon Konnerup
