-a recent prayer letter by Ed Hoagland, BBFI missionary to Mexico
Annita and I just celebrated the fact that we arrived in Mexico City for the first time as missionaries 34 years ago this past Saturday. We also just organized our eighth church plant. This one was done with an unreached indigenous group called the Icoots in San Mateo del Mar, Oaxaca. At that meeting we were also able to ordain their main pastor, along with another pastor that is working an hour away from there with another indigenous group called the Zapotecos. Of the 13 missions that we’re currently overseeing and working with to become self-supporting and self-sustaining local congregations, nine of them are with indigenous groups that we consider our Samaria (Acts 1:8).
Back at our main church in Mexico City, we’re trying to get people to be more committed to the cause of Christ and to arrive on time for the services. During the month of November, we will be in a campaign that seeks to fulfill those purposes and, on the last Sunday of the month, we’ll have another special “Friend Day” along with another follow-up from our summer camps. During October, we had 12 people make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at our main church. At our mission in Ixtaltepec they saw 37 people come to Christ in October. Our Manna feeding centers are growing and we’ll be starting our sixth center next month. God is greatly blessing the preaching and teaching of His Word in Mexico. Our Bible College now has 32 students, and we just added another missionary to our missions program. Pray for a pastor to take the new mission that we’ve started in Joquicingo. We had another person accept Christ out there last week and have almost 40 people arriving for the services.
Last month we received another $1,000 for our two major evangelistic events for the summer of 2019. We’re slowly getting the funds needed to reach 8,000 unbelievers with the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you can help us with a special offering, please send it in this month marked for “Evangelistic Events.” We need to reserve the large auditorium here in the city by January. We enjoy nothing more than to see God use us as we proclaim His truth, and watch Him transform lives.
