Questions often arise around who and what is BBFI Missions. The following answers to a few of those questions help explain what exactly sets BBFI apart.
1. What is the mission statement of the BBFI Mission Office?
Serving churches and their missionaries as they endeavor to fulfill the Great Commission. We desire that all nations would come to know God. The Great Commission was given to the church. The Mission Office comes alongside to help the church and their missionaries to fulfill the Great Commission.
2. What is the focus of BBFI Missions?
Our focus is Evangelism, Discipleship and Church Planting. This does not mean that we don’t do feeding centers, school, clinics etc. It does mean that every outreach and objective is to see people saved, discipled and become part of a local church.
3. What parts of the world do you have missionaries in?
We have had missionaries in 120 countries. We don’t believe any country is closed to us. Currently we have missionaries in 80 countries on every continent except Antarctica. Even where we don’t have missionaries currently working, there are churches there that remain. We work with missionaries to assist them to go where God has called them to share the gospel.
4. Do you send or appoint missionaries to specific places to serve?
We are the vehicle to help someone called by God and led by the Spirit to a specific location. We assist them in answering God’s call upon their lives. We work with their sending church and come alongside them with processing and services. We are not the sending agency, so we do not place them in specific locations.
5. Do you have many Mission Policies?
They are set up by the pastors of the BBFI. The Mission Office administrates them. There are not many. I always say, “If you do what is right in God’s eyes and work hard to serve Him and love others, you won’t even think about the policies.”
6. What size is the BBFI?
We process funds from nearly 3,000 mission-minded churches mainly in the USA. It is a great network of churches. Outside of the US we have over 21,000 churches with our mission force multiplying. We partner with them in reaching the world. We currently have 600 BBFI missionaries in 80 countries. Plus, we have around 500 missionaries affiliated with us who have left their country to serve elsewhere around the world – some in very dangerous locations. While our mission force has declined in numbers due to health or aging, as it has with other organizations, we are doing all we can to build our force back up through the efforts of Project 938 (see project938.world).
7. How long has the BBFI been around?
The BBFI was established in 1950 with 100 churches and 19 missionaries serving in 4 countries. We started with missionaries in Mexico, Japan, China and the Philippines. Since then we have missionaries and churches across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, Central America, the Caribbean as well as the islands of Oceania. With this kind of longevity, missionary candidates can rest assured in the stability of the BBFI organization.
