(A recent prayer letter received from Steve and Kelli Mowery, Spain.)
As I mentioned in our last letter, we have been helping out with a new work in the nearby city of Cartagena. It is about 45 minutes away. The background story is that the missionary that started the work two years ago had to leave the country this last October because of tax issues and problems with visas. He asked us to hold down the fort while they reassessed their situation, searching for the Lord’s will. We had a meeting with them recently and were informed of their decision. They don’t see the Lord leading them to come back to Spain because their circumstances haven’t changed.
We came to an agreement and offered to officially take over the new work as our own. I will continue to preach and Kelli and I will work to grow the new church. We will continue with the Murcia church as always but add this new baby church as our new mission outreach. We have always had a burden for the city of Cartagena and wanted to start a church there someday. That day is here, ready or not. We are excited and motivated about the challenge.
The missionary that left will help with the financial part of the work for awhile but we will need to raise more support. Our support has not increased significantly in the last 16 years since 2010. So if you could pray about that need and for the new work that would be greatly appreciated.
Last week we were blessed to be able to participate in the first European Missionary Retreat called SALT Europe organized by Brian and Monica Berry and hosted by the wonderful people of Leon Valley Baptist Church in San Antonio. Bro. Burkholder and his people blessed us with their servant hearts. We got to meet other missionaries that we didn’t know and make new friends. I was especially glad to be able to witness to our Irish bus driver for almost an hour. He listened and I pray for his salvation. He has a good name. Pray for Steve.
