Charlotte – just her name brings a flood of memories. Her quick wit and sense of humor brought life to the room. Many times, it was what she DIDN’T say, but the expression on her face that caused laughter. I can still see her pursed lips as Bro. Paul Hylton would jokingly harass her because of her red hair.
Charlotte Earhart joined the staff of the BBFI Mission Office in June 1991. She processed countless donations, stuffed endless receipts, and impacted thousands of missionaries, pastors, church staff, donors and fellow employees. She mentioned at her retirement that when she started working here it was just a job, but after a week it became her ministry.
Char loved her family, especially her grandsons. Though I only met them in passing, I felt as if I knew them because of the things she shared. When her great-granddaughter, Marina, was born, it added an extra sparkle to her eyes. God blessed her with two more “greats” to further enrich her life.
January 2014 brought an unexpected change to the Earhart’s lives as Charlotte was diagnosed with pre-leukemia. In between treatments, she worked as much as her strength would permit. She finally reached the point where she was physically unable to continue to work and retired after 23 years of faithful service in the Mission Office.
Charlotte received many blood and platelet transfusions and was in and out of the hospital multiple times during the three years following her retirement – her husband, Bob, faithfully by her side. It was a few months ago during one of her hospital stays that Linda Turner (contributions) and I went to see her. We both left encouraged by Char’s positive attitude and words of encouragement.
Thank you, Charlotte, for your faithfulness to the Lord and for showing others how to endure!
