It’s That Time of Year for Christmas Gifts!
You might receive two types of Christmas gifts through our office this holiday season:
Christmas Gifts from Individuals, Family, & Friends
- If monetary gifts are sent to you labeled as Christmas gifts, we cannot process them as a “contribution.” You will see them in your 0101 Ministry Account as a personal/non-gift. The individuals will not get a tax-deductible receipt for any contributions marked as Christmas gifts.
- If you choose to use the funds for personal purposes, you will have a personal tax liability on those funds.
Christmas Gifts from Churches and Other Organizations
- If the Christmas gifts are from a church or other organization, you will usually see them in your 0003 – Specials. (If they give online, they might select your 0101 personal/non-gift fund as directed on our site)
- It is your choice to process these as either personal or ministry funds. If you choose to use them as personal funds, you will have a tax liability on these gifts, as the IRS deems that you are getting these bonuses because of your “job.” This is like an employee in the US getting a Christmas bonus in the eyes of the IRS.
