This recent prayer letter from BBFI missionary Josh Lane, tells of the work started by Wesley Lane in a remote area of Haiti. Your prayers and support for both families serving in the Dominican Republic and Haiti are necessary to keep them there effectively reaching the uttermost. You can learn more about them and their ministry through the BBFI App (download from your favorite app store), or you may contact them at wesley.lane@bbfimissions.org and joshua.lane@bbfimissions.org.
Josh writes: “Not long after my arrival in the D.R. I was invited to go on a trip into Haiti with Missionary Wesley Lane and a group from the Haitian congregation here in Jarabacoa. The Pastor of the Haitian church, Pastor Gary, along with a local pastor in the Retel Gorge of Haiti put together an Evangelistic Outreach Conference. These men have a real burden for their fellow countrymen. We had a few planning meetings and gathered supplies including tracks as well as 60 Bibles the first part of July. We left the D.R. on July the 20th and traveled two days by bus, then by truck. After the truck took us as far as the driver dared go, mules were loaded with everything we would need for seven days in the mountains. We then hiked for five hours arriving at our campsite around dinner time. The Retel Gorge is a remote location in northern Haiti. With the exception of a few cellphones (with no signal!!) and mini solar LED’s it was like stepping back in time 200 years. However, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people living in this uttermost location.
The conference went from Sunday to Sunday. I had the privilege and opportunity to preach both Sunday mornings with Missionary Wesley Lane interpreting. I also had the opportunity to share my testimony one of the other days. Three other preachers, including Wesley Lane, rotated preaching throughout the week. After adding up our attendance each night, we had a total conference attendance of 2,229 people across seven days. Sixty-five people accepted Christ as their personal Savior. Seventy people rededicated their lives to the Lord. One man, who we witnessed to during the week, refused to give up his voodoo. After Sunday morning services, he grabbed Pastor Gary and said he wanted to accept Christ. He prayed to accept Christ and then they burned all of his voodoo charms. Several others burned or smashed their voodoo. We also saw a whole family of five accept Christ!
The one salvation that sticks out in my mind from this trip was the “town drunk.” He was known as an alcoholic and a violent person. When he walked the aisle Monday night to accept Christ, the congregation erupted. People clapped and cheered, sang and rejoiced, screamed and shouted. I have grown up in the house of God and I have never seen such rejoicing over one sinner. My heart was excited to think what must have been going on in heaven just then. I can truly say I saw Revival. Please pray for these new converts as they begin their walk with Christ, as well as the local pastors as they begin the discipling process. Praise the Lord! Great things He hath done!”
