It is our privilege to introduce to you our newest employee at the Mission Office, Joshua Hale. While he is certainly no stranger to our office having grown up as a missionary kid, Joshua shares his heart and love for missions as an adult.
Tell how and when you came to the Mission Office and what your role is.
I had been praying for several months that the Lord would allow me to serve missionaries in some capacity, specifically in the Mission Office if that was His will. In the fall of 2022, the Lord opened that door. I am now an Administrative Assistant to Craig Stevenson. I work with BBFI missionary candidates, helping them through the application and approval process to become BBFI missionaries, as well as helping WIN missionary candidates through the process of becoming a World Initiative Network missionary. I also assist Bro. Stevenson with Beyond Borders ministries and other projects and events.
Tell us about your family and your connection to missions.
I grew up in a missionary family. My grandparents have been BBFI missionaries for over 55 years, and my parents have been BBFI missionaries for over 35 years. I also have extended family on the mission field as well. I spent 19 years on the mission field, first in Lithuania, and later in southern Portugal. Missions isn’t just something I’m passionate about as a Christian, it’s been something I’ve had the privilege to grow up in and serve in for many years. I’m grateful for the years I spent on the mission field, and I am excited to be part of the Mission Office, helping our missionaries around the globe reach the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
What skills or experience do you have that will aid you in your new role here at the Mission Office?
Beyond the experiences I’ve had with missions growing up, I have also served in various ministries over the last five years in which I gained experience working in a church office environment, while serving wherever else I was needed. I also previously worked in a customer service-related position prior to joining the Mission Office team.
What is one thing that few people know about you?
One of my favorite hobbies is carpentry. It is something I learned from my dad growing up and I still love designing and building everything from furniture to small log cabins.
What indoor/outdoor activities bring you the most enjoyment?
I started out taking photos and videos for my parents’ church in Portugal and I still thoroughly enjoy photography and videography. My wife and I also love to go hiking and kayaking together whenever we can.
Where do you enjoy going on vacation and why?
My wife and I share a passion for history, and we enjoy visiting museums, landmarks, and historical sites. Road trips are one of our favorite ways to vacation.
What do you like most about working in the Mission Office?
What I like most, and what I consider to be one of the greatest blessings of working here at the Mission Office is the sense of teamwork. Everyone here has come from a different background with their own unique experience, and we share a common goal. Our office is privileged to serve churches and their missionaries as they endeavor to reach the world with the Gospel. It is a blessing to work with such skilled individuals as a team each day. We share a lot of work, prayers, and a few laughs along the way. I am very grateful to serve alongside everyone here at the BBFI Mission Office.
