When Mike Duff entered retirement recently, God was very gracious to us in bringing along Nancy Gaines to take over the responsibility of filling the role of Medical/Mail Supervisor. As is often the case, God definitely hand picked Nancy with her unique background to join our team. To know Nancy a little bit more, we encourage you to read on.
Tell how and when you came to the Mission Office and what your role is.
I was told of an opening and encouraged to send in my resume. I was hired on March 21, 2023 in anticipation of Mike Duff retiring April 28.
My responsibilities include handling the medical and life benefits along with all things mail. I sort and process incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
Tell us about your family and your connection to missions.
My husband, Randy & I celebrated 41 years of marriage this past June. We met in the registration line of BBC here in Springfield, August of 1979. We have two grown sons, Joshua, and Justin, that live in this area with their wives and our eight precious grandbabies!
In 1993, during a Missions Conference at Winter Haven Baptist Temple we surrendered to full-time ministry, whatever that might look like. Randy Perkins was the speaker that day. We returned to BBC, graduated, and went on staff at Anchorage Baptist Temple with Dr. Jerry Prevo from 1997 until 2004. We moved back to Florida in 2004 and planted a church. Later, Randy accepted a position at Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring, FL.
What did you do before coming to work at the Mission Office?
I was a life & health producer and manager for Heacock Insurance Group for almost 16 years.
Tell us about the most enjoyable place you have ever lived.
Alaska (seven years). Not sure I can say it was the most “enjoyable”, but it was an adventure. The scenery was breathtaking, and I loved seeing the moose walk down the road and even into our back yard.
What indoor/outdoor activities bring you the most enjoyment?
Anything that involves our grandbabies! Their ages are 16 down to 3. Whether it’s watching their favorite show or playing a game, it’s all about them!
What is your favorite restaurant and what do you order?
There are so many places to eat here I have not found a favorite yet. I love any place with a good steak, burger, or pasta.
What do you like most about working in the Mission Office?
The missionaries of course! I have reconnected with some that I went to school with and others that I heard about over the years but never met. It is also wonderful to be a small part of those just starting their missionary journey. Recently I received a card from a missionary that said, “Thank you…You have an even greater impact on the great commission and a front row seat to the front lines of the Gospel!” Wow! What an amazing thought that is! It truly is a privilege to serve our missionaries.
