How does a 21-year-old college student end up getting to work in the BBFI Missions Office? Well, that my friend, is a question I still do not have an answer to. But I do know this, being an intern at Mission Office has been one of the most enjoyable work experiences I’ve ever had.
It all started when Craig Stevenson approached me and asked if I would be interested in a part-time position working in the office beginning in August 2019. I was thrilled and quickly accepted the job I never dreamed I would get to have while still a college student. My senior, “only take the classes you need to graduate”, schedule allowed me to be in the office four out of the five days a week. So, August came, and I jumped right in. Talk about feeling like a rookie! I didn’t have a degree yet and walked into a building where most of the people had more years of real-world ministry experience than I had of life. I walked in the first day, only slightly intimidated by all the “real adults” (what I call people who are not just college student adults), ready to try to jump in and do whatever I could to serve. I was immediately greeted with smiling faces and a warm welcome that washed a good amount (but not all) of the nerves away and from there it all seems like history.
I began learning things whether it was big, small, important, or just a life lesson and I soaked it all up. I took a tour of the office then sat down with all the employees and got to hear everything they did. I was able to look around in the museum, and then jumped right in. I began to understand the scope of what was being quietly and faithfully done day in and day out. Thousands of missionaries and churches were represented by just a handful of people making sure everyone gets the help and support they often don’t even realize they need.
As for now my wife Kaylie and I are moving to Midland, TX, to take on the role of Youth Pastor at Kelview Heights Baptist Church. We are so excited to see what God has for us there and so thankful for what God has done in our lives here in Springfield.
