You are precious to God!
We are precious to God. Isaiah 43:4a says, “Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee:”
When we think about things that are precious in the world in which we live, we might think of gold. As of this writing, gold is worth a little more than $3,000 per ounce. That’s a lot of money. I figured out that if I was worth my weight in gold that total would come to over seven million dollars! Wow! We are worth that, and much more to God.
A favorite psalm of mine is Psalm 139. This psalm reminds me that God knows me—he searches and examines me, He knows my thoughts, and all the words on my tongue (that’s also kind of scary!).
God is also with me. We can’t get away from God. He is everywhere that we go.
God has known us from the beginning of our existence, when we were woven together in our mother’s womb. Psalm 139:14 is one of the first verses I remember learning as a new eighth grade student at a Christian school. Our Home Economics teacher wanted us to remember that we were fearfully and wonderfully made.
We are precious to God, but His thoughts are precious to us. This can also mean “weighty”. There are a lot of them. God is thinking so many thoughts of us that they are more than the sand of the sea. It is comforting to know how much God is thinking of me.
God searches us. The Psalmist prayed and asked God to search Him, to probe his thoughts, to examine him, to try or test him and see if there was any wicked way in him. Why? In order to correct him, and lead him in the way everlasting. He did not want to follow in the way of the wicked, but to follow in God’s way.
So remember that God knows us, He is with us wherever we are, He is thinking of us, and He is searching us. I pray this would motivate us to follow in His ways, the way of life! Next time you feel down or worthless, remember, you are precious to God!
