(a recent prayer letter received from Ricky & Tammy Salmon, Thailand)
Eight years ago, during our prison ministry outreach, a young man heard the gospel behind bars and surrendered his life to Christ. At the time I prayed with him, I could only hope and pray that God would continue the work He had begun. Since then, Siridet, (nickname Gun) has been released, he joined our staff ministry team for nearly a year, completed Bible School, and faithfully served alongside us and other fellowship churches for a period of time. Today, he continues to lead Bible studies and is now serving full-time in the ministry. His life is a powerful reminder that when missionaries and churches plant gospel seed in faith, God brings the harvest – sometimes years later. We thank you, our supporting churches, for standing with us in this long term kingdom work. Your prayers and partnership are bearing fruit that lasts!
On May 10th, we had the privilege of attending the wedding of Siridet to a godly young woman named Ploy, who has also been faithfully serving the Lord. Their union is a beautiful testimony of God’s redeeming word and grace bringing together two lives once shaped by brokenness but now united in purpose!
Over the past year, a young Pakistani man, a refugee living in Bangkok, began developing a friendship with a Thai/Chinese Buddhist young lady named Jen. She works in logistics and speaks English well, which allowed them to have conversations about God, faith, and eternal things. Through their growing friendship, he often shared with her the hope of Christ and the message of salvation. But it was his deep desire that Jen not only hear the Gospel, but understand it in the language of her heart – Thai.
Two weeks ago, he brought her to church for the first time. After the service, Tammy had the privilege of sitting with her one-on-one to answer her many thoughtful questions. They spoke openly about faith, truth, and eternity. She was wrestling with a powerful question: How can all religions teach truth if they each say something different? They talked through that gently but clearly, affirming that in the end, there can only be one truth – and that truth is found in Jesus Christ.
As our time together drew to a close, I suggested we set another time to talk more. But Jen’s response stopped her in her tracks. She said: “If I leave the church today and don’t live to see tomorrow, I know I won’t go to heaven. I know where I would go. I want to make that decision now.”
With tears in both our eyes, I prayed with her as she placed her faith in Jesus Christ. That day, Jen became a new creation. Please pray for Jen – for her spiritual growth, her protection, and that she will join into the Thai church family as she begins her walk with Jesus. Pray also for the young man Fasil, who cared enough to share Christ clearly and patiently.
