When we look at Scripture, the Lord commands His followers to lay their lives down for Him as a living sacrifice. In those times, we realize that life is not to be lived for ourselves, but it is all about Him and His glory. That is where the most joy is found, and everyone who follows Jesus is called to be a part of it.
Living for the Lord in your life may look like sharing the gospel in your school, workplace, or with your neighbors. It may look like giving and serving in your local church, and helping people grow in their relationship with Christ. In any of these contexts, living for Him will have sacrifices and will be costly, but it is worth it.
In our context, as we prepare to move to Argentina as church planters, we are often asked about the sacrifices we are leaving behind in America. While, yes, these sacrifices are very real as we picture the faces of many dear family members and friends that will stay in the States, we also know that there is no greater joy than serving Jesus where He has called us.
The beauty of it all is that true joy is not found in the circumstances or comforts around us, but it is a choice that is rooted in the workings of God and His character that is steadfast. Serving the Lord is a reminder that laying down our lives as a living sacrifice means that we also get a front row seat at seeing the Lord save people and give freedom that is unlike anything this world could ever offer.
As you seek out where the Lord may use you, remember that no matter the sacrifice or cost, there is joy in going where He leads.
