Educating MKs has changed dramatically in the past 30 years.  The widespread availability of the internet has brought information and knowledge, which used to be found only in libraries and bookstores, right into our hands. Whether or not a missionary family is homeschooling, having access to digital materials to supplement your children’s learning is a great opportunity.

One company that can help in this area is Pureflix, a Christian digital streaming service.  In looking at their website I came across some information I’d like to share with you.  I am not a subscriber, but thought this might be of interest to some families. At the bottom of their homepage, www.pureflix.com, there is a link to their homeschool curriculum.    If you are a subscriber to Pureflix, with rates ranging from $10.99 a month to $99.99 a year, you can have access to hundreds of documentaries, movies, and series.  They also have free downloadable materials and weekly video guides to help you supplement your child’s learning, no matter their age or grade.

Parents are always looking for ways to make learning fun and interesting for their kids, and this is another way to do that! There are videos for any subject, and for all ages preschool thru high school. You can browse through their website without signing up to see what is available.   Pureflix is a faith-based video streaming service where you might be able to find more programs in line with your values.  If you sign up for Pureflix, there is a page under the Homeschool link section that allows you to also sign up to receive three months of free access to homeschool study supplements from The Old Schoolhouse and Worldbook Online.

I didn’t intend for this to be a commercial for Pureflix, and I realize that if you already subscribe to Amazon Prime or Netflix, you also have access to many educational and documentary-style programs—hundreds if not thousands. So if you are a homeschooling family, or even if you aren’t, but want to supplement your child’s schooling with American/English programs, American History or just allow them to keep up with certain trends in American culture, digital streaming is a wonderful way to be able to do that! Of course, it’s very important that parents know what their kids are watching online, so be vigilant and informed in that area.
