This New Year got off to a quick start. On January 1, I began my trip to India. I had the opportunity to visit the ministries of our early missionaries Edward and Elizabeth Jelley and Caroll and Bonnie Jelley. Edward and Elizabeth were approved with the BBFI in 1955 and then later, in 1970, Caroll and Bonnie were approved as BBFI missionaries. It was exciting to see the remaining works that continue under local leadership. We built good friendships and they are thrilled to have a connection with the BBFI – their roots. My heart was blessed. Then I got to meet up with both of our current families serving there. The churches are growing and reproducing even while living under antagonism from other religions. God is working and the fellowship with our saved friends there was amazing and a blessing for sure.
The first seven apartments for retiring missionaries are close to being completed. The final plumbing and electrical work need to be completed. The appliances are installed. Final cleaning will be done soon and then the final inspection. Pray that all goes well to complete these soon. They are looking very nice. Would you pray with me for funds to keep coming in so that we can purchase washer and dryer sets for each apartment and then to pay off this entire project? I am hopeful that we can have it all paid off by May this year. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
In March I will be visiting a few countries and preaching in several mission conferences. I think of and pray for all our missionaries who travel stateside and internationally. Travel is not quite like it used to be.
Two quick important announcements. First, we are glad to have Mike Hillhouse on our team at the Mission Office. He will be taking Steve Bender’s place. Second, Nancy Gaines will be retiring. Her last day will be February 27. She has been, and will continue, training Mary Copeland for this important position. Nancy has been a great asset for our medical plan these last three years.
Taking the Gospel to the unreached is difficult work. It takes time to build relationships, to understand their culture, and their religion. It takes a lot of patience and a great deal of prayer. I don’t know what you might be facing right now. However, I do know the One who does know. He said He will always be with you and has the power to help you succeed in reaching those He has called you to. Thank you for your faithfulness!
Your friend,
